No Mercy movie review & film summary (1986)

no mercy film

The two policemen acting as hit men meet later that evening New Orleans businessman Paul Deveneux, Terry Kinney, and his girlfriend Michel Duval, Kim Basinger, at a Chicago restaurant. But there is nothing like being handcuffed to Basinger in the middle of a swamp to concentrate the mind, and eventually he can see that she is a victim. At the time Losado was in town to get back his runaway and personal slave girl. I think I'll go the second way, because whatever this movie is, it's not boring. The Gere character figures this out only belatedly. With Basinger, that process was even easier.

With Basinger, that process was even easier. Then he sold me on the character, and I stopped thinking about Gere and started caring about what was going to happen next. Maverick Chicago cop Eddie Jillette poses as a hit man to meet with someone in from New Orleans looking to have a job done. Back at the hotel were police officer Collins is staying Michael Losado and a bunch of his hoods breaks in and catch Collins by surprise. Gere is convincing and makes it watchable.

Determined not to leave without taking care of Lasado Jillette has Michel, who had since fallen in love with him, used as bait to get him out in the open which leads to the movies fiery conclusion in a deserted New Orleans hotel. Thrillers are often only as good as their villains. His realization comes at a delicately handled, understated turning point: He learns, almost by accident, that she has never learned to read, and we can see in his eyes that this touches him. I agree that it has some holes in the story line, but that doesn't make it a bad movie. It's always a shame when a movie bothers to create interesting characters and then discards them in a high-tech climax.

There is enough conviction in their relationship that it carries over even into the obligatory bloodbath that ends the film, and I found myself caring about them even while on another level I was running an inventory of the special effects. It doesn't take shortcuts and it delivers on its grimy, breathless action sequences. It doesn't take shortcuts and it delivers on its grimy, breathless action sequences. But he makes a very satisfactory villain, especially after we learn that the Basinger character was heartlessly sold to him when she was only a child and has been his slave ever since. Eddie flees through the Louisiana with Michel Duval, the beautiful Cajun mistress of a murderous crime lord who aims to destroy the Chicago detective before he can avenge his partner's murder. The result is that both the guy and Jillette's partner wind up very dead, while a stunning blonde in on the setup disappears. So what do you want for six bucks? The movie's climax, a shootout in a flophouse across the river from New Orleans, is an anthology of action cliches and a few fresher touches, such as the villain's ability to ram through walls. At first he thinks she's another one of this guy's hookers, used to lure his partner to his doom. Although she fits all of the usual requirements for a movie sexpot, there is within her the genuine soul of an artist, and she throws herself into this role so convincingly that there is real pathos in her history.

Like, I wasn't sure if the movie was good or bad for me because it was messing with my brain and my emotions. Advertisement He tries to arrest her, they become handcuffed to one another, he loses the key, the villain's goons try to kill them, and they escape into the bayou country with nothing more than her torn blouse standing between them and the alligators. It's always a shame when a movie bothers to create interesting characters and then discards them in a high-tech climax. If in Taken, they took his daughter, and in John Wick, they killed his dog, it was definitely a bad idea to mess with her sister. Gere is interesting all through the movie.
